G : Grandmother Willow “But, Grandmother Willow, what is my path? How am I ever going to find it?”

Mother’s Day is exactly one month away and what better way to get the ball rolling than by celebrating with one of the wisest matriarchs of Disney,
Grandmother Willow

Grandmother Willow made her screen debut in the 1995 film Pocahontas. She serves as Pocahontas’ touchstone throughout the film, giving her advice and cracking a few jokes along the way. Although her physical presence in the the 1998 sequel was brief, her solid advice appeared throughout the film. Even serving Pocahontas at the end when she needed to make one of the most important decisions of her life. When trying to decide whether to stay in England with John Smith or return home, she took to the woods, “listened to the spirit within.”

From there, Grandmother Willow has appeared in House of Mouse, and taken up residency in Animal Kingdom. She used to appear with Pocahontas in Pocahontas and her Forest Friends in Animal Kingdom, from there she moved to Rafiki’s Planet Watch, under Song of the Rainforest.
grandmother-willow-gives-pocahontas-adviceGrandmother Willow takes extremely good care of herself because Willow Trees usually live about 70 years, maybe 100. Grandmother Willow is 400 years old. Oak trees are known to live hundreds possibly thousands of years old. Perhaps Grandmother Willow is part Oak?

My favorite song from Pocahontas is Just Around the Riverbend, it’s so light and fun. Apparently this song was not meant for Pocahontas but for a wise old spirit called “Old Man River.” He was basically a male version of Grandmother Willow. Actor Gregory Peck was offered the role and although he wanted it, he had to decline. Peck thought it best the role went to a woman, that Pocahontas needed a maternal presence.

      1. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who doesn’t like it lol thankfully. I don’t know if I would know how to react to someone like that. That’s just not human haha
